2024 - 23”x33” - Machine pieced, raw edge applique, machine quilted without a frame (domestic)

Towards the start of each year, I do some reflection and projection and am often inspired to pick some core desires, an invocation, or a song to guide the coming year. In 2024 I was especially drawn to the cover of Elton John’s Benny and the Jets by Biz Markie and the Beastie Boys. I wanted to tap into the pure, sloppy joy of singing your heart out even when you don’t know all the lyrics.

I’ve spent a lot of time wondering if I am “too much” or “too weird” for other people and places. And I’ve been able to do enough therapy and reflection and re-framing that it’s easier to embrace my bold strangeness. “Weird and Wonderful” is a reminder to me to embrace the diverse, odd, and interesting experiences that make life better.
